Hiatus :(

Hello everyone!

I am very sorry but i have decided to go on a hiatus from blogging until the end of 2020.

It was a long time coming, seeing as I haven’t been active and I apologize for not replying to you & or coming over to your blogs. That wasn’t very nice of me…

Blogging has become a chore and no fun anymore since that awful editor and I haven’t been reading because I felt the pressure of having to blog about it… I know it’s silly but that’s how bad it is!

I feel like an actual break will be good, as I have time to read & think what I’m going to do next year..

I see 3 options..

1. Find another option with better editor

2. Actually make an effort & get used to the editor

3. Stop blogging altogether

I think most likely so far is the first…but we will see!

For now I will share my thoughts about books & reading ony social media and would be glad if we can follow each other on insta or twitter or even WhatsApp.

I will not delete my blog, there just won’t be any new posts for a bit.

You might even see me hop over & comment on your blog posts cause that’s the only thing i will be using WordPress for… For now!

I am sorry if the formatting is off, I just can’t be bothered with that bs editor.

  1. Hang in there! Sorry to hear that your hiatus is mostly caused by that horrible WP editor and that has so much impacted your pleasure of blogging… I hate it too and don’t use it, but instead have a workaround with classic editor and WP Admin – which admittedly is still more work than it used to be, but at least looks the same.
Hope it will work out for you in the end, whatever decision you make! πŸ™‚

      1. Hmm I think we’re on premium… You can choose classic editor from block editors, paste your post there if you have it ready (I usually write it in a word processor beforehand) and then go to Admin and open it from there. Admin has the same layout as the previous WP editor, with the same options, so you can tweak your post as you like it πŸ™‚ Hope that helps!

  2. man, I am really sorry to hear this but totally understand. This editor is just KILLING the casual blogger and I think it’s going to do a lot of harm to wp in the long run. Trust me, I completely understand about not reading due to not wanting to write it up and dealing with the editor.

But as Ola pointed out, there are alternatives. If the admin option is too much (I never explored that option so have no idea about it), you can try the classic block. It’s not quite as good, but it’s similar enough that the pain isn’t as much as going straight block.

Glad you’re being proactive and taking the break though. This is has been a rough year for everybody from SO many sources, so a time of re-trenching is a good thing. I did try to follow your instagram account, but I guess you can’t follow someone without joining up with it? Is there anyway to add you to the wp feed? I couldn’t figure it out.

Stay sane and don’t come back until you’re ready. If you come back because of other people, it won’t end well. I’ve seen that enough times 😦

    1. Hi Bookstooge! I apologise for the late answer, again.. i just can’t get myself to even open this app at the moment :-/

I have done some research and unfortunately couldn’t see any way to follow an instagram account through wordpress.. (with all their changes & little tidbits they’re adding you’d think something like this was possible! πŸ˜€ )

I will have a look at classic editor and the admin option as well as i will be stepping back from work too & have more time at home pretty soon.

Hope Mrs. Bookstooge & yourself are doing well!! πŸ™‚

      1. no need to apologize. I figured the thought of wp was just too much for you at this time.

I was afraid of that about instagram. Oh well, thank you for checking.

Even with the admin option, that editor is different than what we were used to. So unfortunately, some change is going to happen.

We’re both doing ok right now, so we’re praying it stays that way.

Finally, and without sounding obnoxious. If you do decide to stop blogging, I fully support that decision. This new editor seems tailor made to drive away the casual blogger and from what I gather in the forums, it is doing just that 😦

One suggestion I might make. There is a new book site, Bookhype, opening up. If devilreads or librarything won’t do it for you, you could check out bookhype. Just something to keep your feet in the book’ish online world.

      2. I am letting MurderbyDeath explore it and I’ll make a decision about it once I’ve seen what she thinks of it. She compared it favorably to the now defunct Leafmarks, and I liked Leafmarks, so we’ll see.

      3. I am DeeZee! Will probably work on my library there today – so far i really like what i see! I just didn’t figure out how to put stuff on my wishlist. But it’s still the beta version and their social media account is very active on twitter so i might just check with them if I can’t figure it out.

Thank you for bringing them to my attention!

  3. Classic block is okayish after a few posts, don’t worry. Switching platforms wouldn’t work for me: building follow-up again,…

I understand the burn-out 100% though. What worked for me was ditch the self imposed quotum of one book/post a week, and also shorter reviews if I don’t feel like writing a long one. Take care!

  4. Take care of yourself! When blogging feels like a chore, it’s time to take a break. I do agree with some of the comments above about trying the classic block, but also that you might want to reach out directly to WP and let them know how they’re impacting you. I hope you’ll be back soon, but meanwhile, enjoy your break!
