I’m replacing my usual Sunday summary posts with Wyrd & Wonder Update posts in May.

I managed to finish 3 books from my TBR so far!

  • Wundersmith. The Calling of Morrigan Crow by Jessica Townsend –> The 2nd part in the Nevermoor series and I absolutely adored it again. It’s still giving me the best Harry Potter vibes without being a copy. The magic & ideas in it are phenomenal and the humour is the best! I was missing Fenestra a little, but that would be my only concern. Book 3 will be published in a couple of months and I already pre-ordered it.
  • Calling on Dragons. The Enchanted Forest Chronicles 3 by Patricia C. Wrede –> That was my least favourite of the bunch so far, despite the flying donkey! I still mostly enjoyed it, but it seemed a bit …forced? I don’t think the story flowed very well and I was missing a bit of the humour. That being said, the cats were an absolute joy and I would love to read more about them! The ending kinda made me sad, but I can see where book 4 is going. That would be the last and I will get to it sooner than later because I want to start with Wrede’s Sorcery & Cecelia books after!
  • Reaper Man. Discworld 11 / Terry Pratchett –> This ReRead was fun! I enjoyed everything about the wizards again and there were a lot of memorable or hilarious quotes. My next ReRead will be ‘Witches Abroad’ which was a favourite! I wonder how it holds up now.

I also started listening to Come Tumbling Down by Seanan McGuire last week. It is the last one in the series so far and I do like the start even though I’m normally not a big fan of the body swap trope.

And next to this I started my 3rd ReRead of Assassin’s Apprentice by Robin Hobb! That illustrated version is SO beautiful, it’s my most precious and I can’t wait for Royal Assassin next month!! The Shadow Rising is my constant companion this month. I read a little here and then. Should manage to finish it in the end of May!

Reading-wise I am doing great! Very happy that I’m sticking to my TBR too. I’m not happy with my blogging time though. I don’t seem to manage to prepare as many posts as I want and even blog-hop. I blame pro wrestling. Due to there not being any live shows for probably still a couple of months, I checked out some other promotions and got stuck. My new obsession next to NJPW is now DragonGate! So I’ve been spending a lot of time catching up on their old events and getting up to date. While still rewatching lots of my favourite NJPW matches. I miss it 😦

So my plan for next week is to be more active and finish 2 more novels! Then I’m well on track I think.

Here are my 2 favourite reading companions!

Have a good week!!

  1. Yep, I agree with your assessment of the Wrede book. When I re-read these back in ’17, I alternated between liking the rabbit/donkey and absolutely hating him. I think you’re in for a treat with the Sorcery & Cecilia books. I really enjoyed the first, as I believe she wrote it as a standalone in the late 80’s. Then she wrote the next two in the mid ’00’s and I don’t think anybody enjoyed them quite as much. But since you liked Mairelon, and are liking the Enchanted Forest, I’m sure you’ll like the trilogy 😀

  2. The snoots!
I’m very impressed that you can reread Robin Hobb, and more than once! I don’t think my heart could take it. I loved the books when I read them, but why must she put those poor characters through so much
