Books, Dogs & Gardening #16

Last week wasn’t a good one for reading. I had to cover a couple of extra shifts at work and was always home pretty late and too tired to read more than a couple of pages.

And then you get people freaking out about the Coronavirus everywhere. I don’t know who started the toilet paper craze, but goddamnit, people are stupid sheep sometimes. Now supermarkets need security guards in their toilet paper section. Ridiculous! We’re still in business as usual, but won’t cater for big functions for the time being. Fingers crossed it won’t get worse.

Enough of that now though^^ I finished zero books this week but read 2 and listened toIMG20200308204837 1. I’m more than halfway through The Lost Man by Jane Harper. Gotta admit that it doesn’t grab me as much as her previous books did. I feel this is slow and I am quite bored sometimes. The main character is pretty bland too and that doesn’t help. I started The Dragon Reborn by Robert Jordan and not sure whether I like all the Perrin perspectives. I want Rand back. I like Rand’s pov most!

Additionally I got 4h4min/16h15min of Proven Guilty by Jim Butcher left. I could have finished it last week but decided to listen to some music for a change. I will finish it early next week though. It won’t be my favourite Dresden, of that I’m sure!

Not sure how much time I got next week cause I will also cover more shifts at work. I might concentrate on the Jordan or maybe start another short novel. I received my second book subscription box this week and am happy with it! Book sounds interesting and all the other bits are neat too.

I went to T2 the other day after work. For the first time in a year or so. And I topped up for fall/winter! They had to many great sounding teas and I needed a new tea mug too cause I ALWAYS need mugs and cups πŸ˜€

I got Carrot Cake tea and it’s yummy! Can only recommend πŸ˜‰

So I am really, really starting to miss my New Japan Pro Wrestling! We should be in the middle of the annual New Japan Cup, but the whole tournament has been cancelled. No update on any shows, not even empty arena ones. I’ve been re-watching some of my favourite matches

I pray that everything will go back to normal soon! Have a good week, everyone!

  1. I can understand you missing your sports. There are a lot of unhappy sports fans in my neck of the woods and they’re letting everyone know they’re unhappy, hahahaha!

Rant away about sheep and toilet paper. It’s ridiculous indeed. We’ve had Target (one of our big box stores) put a limit of 1 package of TP per person whenever they get any in. What I want to know is what are these people going to do when they don’t get sick, don’t use up all these panic supplies and life goes on? Sit on 15 packages of 48 rolls of tp for years until they use it all up? I just shake my head…

  2. I’m so confused by the toilet paper thing too. Someone on social media started it and it just exploded. So stupid! Also I went shopping for food today and there’s no milk, bread or pasta in the whole city. Go figure🀣

  3. here are shelfs with less canned food, pasta and milk and flour, too, and that i can understand in times before the weekend – some people have to be at home caring for their kids or seniors, others have to go work or maybe the shopping-assistence is’nt available at another time
but this hoarding is bad and it’s hurting people and charitable institutions like “Tafel Deutschland” etc.

  4. Still puzzling over the toilet paper craze in some parts of the world – or the overall supplies craze, since there is no war on and there will be no groceries shortages of any sort. I guess everyone reacts to fear in a different way…
Once we’ll get past this emergency we’ll be able to laugh about it all, hopefully. πŸ˜‰

  5. Gah! I’m so behind on reading Great Hunt. I don’t know why I’m going so slow. I suspect that it’s because I was rereading the Robin Hobb’s Farseer books too. Will pause to catch up on Jordan though.

  6. The toilet paper thing is nuts and it’s so frustrating to see people hoarding and already price gouging. It’s a horrible situation probably being made exponentially worse by the panic, fear and just plain assholishness of some people. Good luck with your reading!

  7. The toilet paper thing is just crazy; it’s a coronavirus, not rotavirus, so it really shouldn’t affect the amount of paper one needs on daily basis! πŸ˜‰ Glad to see your stores of tea replenished – winter is coming, after all πŸ˜€

  8. I’ve only seen one person with a reasonable response to the toilet paper thing. She said that between her husband working from home and her multiple kids being home from school (including the one who had been away at college) they were just plain old going to have more people at home using the toilet. That still doesn’t excuse the many people hoarding TP, though.

I hope we get back to normal soon, too! But staying healthy is even more important. Good call stocking up on tea, though. πŸ™‚
