Looking for recommendations: Books with teacher/student relationships

I just finished reading Mairelon the Magician by Patricia C. Wrede and was reminded about how much I enjoy the teacher/student trope in my Fantasy novels!

Now I’m looking for more. I don’t mind whether it’s one-on-one or in a school setting, I love reading about some experienced mentor taking on an apprentice and teaching them all they know. It’s fun! Whether it’s magic, fighting or a little bit of everything, I’m there for it! Also: If there’s some slow-burn romancing going on, that would be a Bonus^^ But doesn’t have to!

Here are some books I read & enjoyed:

  • The Books of Pellinor / Alison Croggon
  • The Immortals Series / Tamora Pierce
  • Uprooted / Naomi Novik
  • The Paper Magician Trilogy / Charlie N. Holmberg
  • Mistborn / Brandon Sanderson
  • Farseer Trilogy / Robin Hobb
  • Black Magician Trilogy / Trudi Canavan
  • The Way of Shadows / Brent Weeks

Do you know any books like that? Please let me know in the comments πŸ™‚

      1. I believe that Stevermer and Wrede did a collaboration at some point? Oh yes, the Sorcery and Cecilia trilogy. Fantastic trilogy even while totally not fitting the teacher/student thing. But if you like Wrede, you’ll probably like it. And if you do like it, chances are you’ll like Stevermer’s standalone stuff.
Been a while since I read her books though, so my memory is wicked hazy…

      1. I re-read the Enchanted Chocolate Pot series every few years, I really like it. I haven’t read the Mercedes Lackey books recently, but I know I enjoyed them a lot when I did read them last (it was a while ago, but I’ve read them all several times, also).
