Books, Dogs & Gardening #12

Due to being at work every day but Thursday I didn’t finish any books and didn’t read as much as I wanted. I was too tired in the evenings and mostly just watched some TV, cuddled the dogs and then went to bed. It’s alright though, it will get better again soon!

Summary Feb week 1

I only read The Great Hunt this week, as I’m slowly getting addicted to The Wheel of Time. Who would have thought? One Jordan a month actually looks possible at this point. But we will see. I might get a hangover. The Whitecloaks haven’t turned up again yet. I know they’re coming though….

Apart from reading, I was listening to Dead Beat, the 7th Harry Dresden novel by Jim Butcher in the car. I have 2h 45min of 15h remaining and am enjoying it apart from a few annoyances! I’m glad I stuck with it through the weaker books. I read somewhere they were only getting better and I guess I reached that point now, yay! I will be done on Tuesday I calculated^^ I move on straight to the next after it I guess.

My dogs have been extra cuddly this week. Normally I’m home 3-4 days a week, but not lately. Poor babies!

I got one of those subscription book boxes last week. Was always curious to try them and there are so many neat ones around. Unfortunately the US ones are too expensive for me (like $100 extra for delivery..) and there’s not too much choice in Australia.

I decided to pick the box by luxoreads, which comes with one novel (choose genre!) and a couple little tidbits. Those were the contents:

I’m honestly not sold, but there’s still 2 more months coming. I give it a go and if I still am not a fan, I will cancel again and pick something different! Cause I really like the concept of those boxes. It’s a present every month!

I came across this pic somewhere recently and fell in love. I WANT the setup! With a big window πŸ™‚

  1. I like the idea of the book box/present thing, but just about everyone I’ve ever seen has been geared towards a female audience. Where’s the Military SF books with little model spaceships or bookmarks showing a space marine decapitating a hideous alien monstrosity? What about miniatures in a fantasy setting that we could paint and make a game for? Heck, I’d settle for a vegetable cutting knife made to look like a samurai sword!

Seriously though, I think the sexism exhibited by these companies is unconscionable! I’m thinking of Marching On Washington (DC) and doing whatever protest’y things wingnuts do instead of actually doing something πŸ˜‰

    Sorry. I couldn’t resist.

Glad WoT is continuing to work well. I’m pretty sure the Whitecloaks do show up in this book, as you see some sort of high officer in the prologue as a darkfriend.

As for that last picture, who cleans out the citrus fruit after the bath? The dogs? πŸ˜€

    1. Hahaha, well, you’re actually not that wrong! Most of the boxes are definitely geared towards women xD Maybe that’s how you can make money! Start a ‘manly book box’ πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

Wilma would probably eat the lemon slices AND drink the bath water, she’s a vacuum cleaner πŸ˜€ Probably comes from being a stray the first year of her life.

  2. First, omg I love your pokeball mug! πŸ˜€

Second, I don’t think I’ll ever get into the book subscription box thing mainly because I’m very choosy about what I read. It’s not like a clothing or food or even make-up etc. box where I can be surprised and find a new favorite brand. I know what I like and what I don’t like when it comes to books, and I’m scared to risk getting something I have absolutely no desire to read. Though Made Things is a book I’d actually be interested in! And I have to say some of the boxes have great bookish swag, but from my past experience with other boxes, a lot of it eventually ends up in a storage box gathering dust, lol πŸ˜›

    1. Thank you! πŸ˜€

And yeah, I understand! I didn’t subscribe earlier cause that was exactly my thinking as well. I am very picky when it comes to books. But I also realize that I enjoy books out of my comfort zone from time to time and LOVE presents, so it’s a little surprise every month πŸ˜€ I am not sure if I keep it going after the first 3 though.

  3. Loving that bath pic. It looks so relaxing, like a quiet pond in your bathroom.
Lol at getting hooked on WOT. I’m right there with yah.
Those subscription boxes can be hit or miss. I tried a few before giving up because I didn’t like the books and wasn’t going to read any of them, but I think getting Made Things is pretty cool. I wanted to read that too.

    1. Yea, it’s definitely tricky! I’m glad I was able to choose the genre and also happy that it wasn’t really a YA novel cause most subscription boxes feature those.

Rand is driving me absolutely MAD at the moment πŸ˜€
