Review: The Hanged Man. The Tarot Sequence 2 by K.D. Edwards

The last member of a murdered House tries to protect his ward from forced marriage to hangeda monster while uncovering clues to his own tortured past. The Tarot Sequence imagines a modern-day Atlantis off the coast of Massachusetts, governed by powerful Courts based on the traditional Tarot deck. Rune Saint John, last child of the fallen Sun Throne, is backed into a fight of high court magic and political appetites in a desperate bid to protect his ward, Max, from a forced marital alliance with the Hanged Man. Rune’s resistance will take him to the island’s dankest corners, including a red light district made of moored ghost ships; a surreal skyscraper farm; and the floor of the ruling Convocation, where a gathering of Arcana will change Rune’s life forever.

  2. The Hanged Man
  3. ???

One of my most anticipated releases and it didn’t disappoint! At least not much. Similar to book 1, this one has a story/a case of it’s own that gets a conclusion in the end. So you CAN see it as a stand alone. There are enough new secrets and discoveries in the end to leave the story open, but you won’t be left hanging. I like this very much about the series!

We’re back with the characters from the previous novel and only a couple of new ones. We finally are introduced to a few female characters, one of them with a lot of potential for the sequel.

I’m a fan of Brand and Rune as well as their banter and we get a lot of that again! I am also slowly warming up to Addam, whom I found bland in the first book. But the more I read about him, the more of a defined character he becomes.

I’m not too big on the kids – Quinn & Max and also the little boy whose name I forgot. That’s more of a me-thing though as I don’t find the antics of little kids too funny. And teenage problems are also not really my jam.

I found the humour a bit too forced in some parts. It didn’t come across as easy & natural as in the first book.

The action scenes were better though and I loved the different settings we get. We go from a dodgy red light ship yard to a creepy mushroom farm and even meet most of the Arcana this time! I loved that! Seeing them all as well as their different powers was cool and I enjoyed reading about the showdown in the end. There was a good balance between quiet scenes between the characters as well as action scenes & magic battles.

I was entertained and am falling in love with the characters more and more.

Cannot wait for book 3, I hope it will come soon.
