Check-In #3

…we can’t catch a break it seems! And time is flying – I can’t believe it’s the middle of August already!

Everything at home is going great again – we only had one day without electricity during the last weeks & no more trees fell over on our property. 2 on the road though, which led to a 45 min detour one night.

Massive things have been happening at work though and this took all of our attention the last few weeks. All very positive though!!

I’ve mostly enjoyed my reading this month. Still no progress with The Amber Spyglass but I will pick it up again eventually. I need to know how it all plays out!IMG20190728142434

I finished All Systems Red by Martha Wells but wasn’t sold. I felt like it had too many people in it to be a novella. I didn’t feel like I got to know anyone and even Murderbot wasn’t as interesting as I expected. I think I won’t read any more of those books.

IMG20190809111848I got The Dragon Republic by R.F. Kuang though and immediately started reading. And I am HOOKED, this book is so well written and there’s so much tension and I just want to scream at Rin because I know everything will end in disaster!! I wasn’t 100% sold on the first book, but don’t regret my decision to read part 2. It’s great so far!!

I even had time to sneak in a sample and I am also reallyIMG20190802175839 glad I picked Twelve Kings in Sharakhai, the first part in the Song of the Shattered Sands series by Bradley P. Beaulieu. I actually thought there were more novels in this series already, but so far there’s 4, so not quite enough to scare me away! I was really surprised about how easy it was to read. It has an awesome heroine, an interesting setting and a good amount of action. I will pick this series up soon, it’s very tempting!

I wanted to try a sample of Jade City by Fonda Lee as well, but that has to wait. I’m good for books at the moment.

I’ve been busy gardening as well! My beetroot seeds were the only ones that didn’t sprout, but I moved my broccoli, cauliflower, pansys & poppys along into bigger pots & hope they will do well! I planted another load of seeds – Chamomile, thyme, cocktail tomatoes, 2 different kinds of sunflowers & more beetroot! I’m NOT giving up just yet 😀 I used different seeds this time.

It might be a bit early for the tomatoes, but I’ll keep them inside for now anyways. It’s an experiment! 😀

I found out that there’s finally a Story of Seasons game announced for the Switch!! It’s a remake of the classic Friends of Mineral Town (which I LOVED!) and will be published this October in Japan. I hope this means the rest of the world will get it early 2020?

I’m super excited and decided to get out my 3DS & continue Story of Seasons: Trio of Towns!

You all stay safe!

  1. Hahahahahaa! Hairyhashi promoting condoms? How low will that man go?!? Wait, don’t answer that.

When you mentioned “massive work” changes, my immediate thought was “uh oh” so I was glad to hear it’s of the positive variety. Also sounds like the garden work is coming along swimmingly, so hope that continues.

    1. SORRY for my late comment back!!

Hahaha, Tanahashi is promoting absolutely EVERY random thing in Japan 😀 They really love him over there! Did you know that after a match fans hand him towels ….he wipes his sweaty face and gives them back…? And the fans are over the moon? 😀

  2. I wasn’t as enamored of the Murderbot series as everyone in the blogosphere seems to be but I did read them all (gotta love the library!)

LOL at the Hirohashi picture 🙂
