Friday Check-In

I’m not finishing a lot of books at the moment, so I decided to do a weekly summary post on what I was up to! Hopefully it helps me get my blogging routine back. Fingers crossed!

Good news first: Chyna has new friends!

  • Molly the white Sussex
  • Trish the Isa Brown
  • Indi the golden-laced Wyandotte

They are getting along okay! Chyna made herself the boss, which makes sense as she’s the oldest and been here first. There’s no bullying and fighting though. Only some puffing up & a little pecking here and there. But mostly they are happy together. One of them is laying already! It’s a light brown egg and kinda small, so I guess it’s either Trish or Indi πŸ˜€

We’re getting another bunch in October/November as there is still so much space in the coop.

All the chickens!!

I am on page 303 of Haruki Murakami’s Norwegian Wood and a bit confused onIMG20190712101705 whether I like it or not. It’s easy to read and I’m definitely not forcing myself, but there’s just nothing exciting happening. I guess contemporary is just not my thing. Everything seems so bland and you can only read so much about several quirky female characters.

I haven’t decided yet what to read straight after I’m done. I’m only sure that it’s going to be a Fantasy novel! Maybe I finish His Dark Materials? Or maybe I start re-reading Assassin’s Apprentice? Hmmmmm…

I might also try 1 or 2 samples of novels I’m not sure about..

Yesterday, Mr. DZ and I watched episode 4 & 5 of Good Omens. So we only have one to go. I like it, but don’t LOVE it. David Tennant is brilliant & I love that Pratchett’s influence is noticeable, but it’s a bit too fragmented at some points. And some of the humour falls flat.

I do like the old witch hunter as well though! And happy to see that some Discworld characters appear πŸ™‚ Now we only have one episode to go and then M. DZ can pick the next series we start. We cancelled Netflix and jumped to amazon prime for now. Their shows seem more interesting. Although we DO have to go back to Netflix at some point to catch the next season of Glow.

Apart from that, my week was pretty uneventful. Went to work, started teaching Walter how to heel (he’s picking it up very quickly!) & watched way too much wrestling πŸ™‚

Oh, and we planted some new trees – couple of olives, a cherry, 2 passion fruit and an apricot.

Mr. DZ is outside right now building a massive hot house! We’re almost ready for spring ❀

Hope you all had a good week!

  1. I enjoyed Good Omens a lot more than I thought I would, mainly due to Tennant carrying the whole series as far as I was concerned. Mr Angel Guy (whoever he was) may have the befuddled buffoon part down pat but the angel character was everything I expected from people like Gaiman and Pratchett.

I actually laughed in quite a few places too πŸ™‚ And THAT I wasn’t expecting either.

Glad to hear things seem to be buzzing along. Are fresh eggs different from the ones you buy in the store? I’ve had nothing but store bought my whole life so I simply have no idea…

    1. They actually are!

I never thought so & it’s not a huge difference, but the colour of the egg yolk is more vibrant & it tastes more creamy.

Looks slightly different when you fry it in a pan. The egg white is not as runny.

I’ll do a comparison picture at some point 😁

  2. I am also struggling on the reading front… We finished Good Omens as well last month, I will say this, I am still waiting for a GOOD TP adaptation… I have not yet read good omens so I think some of the humour was lost on me as well.

  3. Yay more chickens! I have friends who keep chicken coops, and when I lived close enough and saw them weekly they’d give us eggs from their flock. (They had lots of chickens, and they were all laying at once, so they had more eggs than they needed.) It was really a treat. They had some hens that laid cute little blue eggs. I don’t know what breed the hen was, but the eggs were lovely.

    1. Oooh, blue eggs would be fun! Our Araucana is laying light green eggs πŸ˜€ Some call them blue, but to me they look green haha. I’d love a colourful mix!

There’s a breed that lays pinkish eggs, I desperately want one!!

      1. Oh, how fun! Sometimes I want to own livestock like chickens and sheep or goats, but other times I remember how much work caring for horses is and I come to my senses. πŸ˜‰ Kidding of course, but it’s hard to own lots of animals and still be able to work a day job.

      2. Haha, I don’t think I’d like to take care of a horse! I see how much time the neighbours spend on it & you can’t milk a horse & it doesn’t give you any eggs πŸ˜€ πŸ˜€

The chickens are pretty easy, but goats would be more challenging for sure!

  4. Congrats on the chickens and eggs front! It’s always better to have your own eggs, I find πŸ™‚ I’ve heard mixed thing on Good Omens, but I’m glad Tennant rises to the occasion – might give it a try at some point.
