Top Ten Tuesday: New to me authors I read in 2018

V. E. Schwab

I read A Darker Shade of Magic and did not like it at all. This will stay my only book by the author. I don’t think we get along very well πŸ˜€

S. A. Chakraborty

I read City of Brass and it was a love/hate relationship. I haven’t made up my mind yet whether I want to read the sequel. Maybe?

Katherine Arden

The Bear and the Nightingale as well as The Girl in the Tower. Very happy I picked those books in the start of last year!

Seanan McGuire

I listened to Every Heart a Doorway and enjoyed it. The sequel is still on my list, as well as other books by the author. Like Indexing, it sounds intriguing!

K. D. Edwards

Fell in love with The Last Sun and am waiting for the sequel, which will come later this year.

R. F. Kuang

She got a lot of attention for her novel The Poppy War. I was curious as well and captivated by the story!

Anne McCaffrey

On my list for a long time and was keen to start Dragonflight. It ended up being a disappointment. I think I won’t try more of her books.

Kate Elliott

Has been on my radar for a while as well. I picked Back Wolves to start with… Which in hindsight wasn’t the best idea. No information on a sequel and the author is starting aΒ  new series already. Meh. I did enjoy the read, even though it was pretty long.

Seth Dickinson

I was surprised that I liked The Traitor Baru Cormorant that much!

Haruki Murakami

I’ve read the first book of the 1Q84 trilogy and am impressed! Not my last Murakami, I will finish the series and probably check out more of his works.

  1. Great list! The Poppy War, The Bear and the Nightingale and The City of Brass are all books I need to cross off my TBR soon. So glad you enjoyed Seanan McGuire! If you like urban fantasy then Rosemary and Rue is really fun, and I will always recommend Feed which she wrote under pseudonym Mira Grant. πŸ˜€

  2. Yay, glad that you were able to read R.F. Kuang, Katherine Arden, and S. A. Chakraborty. I can’t wait to dive into The Kingdom of Copper. And I LOVED The Traitor Baru Cormorant as well! However, I made the mistake of reading the sequel. It was…let’s just say not so great πŸ˜›

  3. Seanan McGuire is my favorite — so glad you enjoyed Every Heart a Doorway! (I just finished the latest in the series, and loved it.) Too bad about Schwab — I have a couple of her books on my shelf that I’ve picked up over the years and just haven’t gotten to. Great list — I see a few books here that I need to check out!
