December 2018

A late wrap up for the last month of 2018!

December was my least active month since I started blogging again 2-3 years ago. We went through the process of buying another property and work is always the busiest in the end of the year. We don’t get days off in hospitality. I also started a second job on a farm. One I did a couple of years ago and I was missing very much. Working three days in hospitality and 2 days picking berries is nice and I think a good balance for me!

But woah – this was actually a good month for reading! I finished 5 books, which is above average for me πŸ™‚ When I’m stressed I REALLY need to read to calm down.

So here is what I finished:

Guards! Guards! / Terry Pratchett –> So much fun! I love how naive Carrot is and everyone in the Watch is so freaking funny & adorable. And those SWAMP DRAGONS! I love them!

1Q84. Book 1 / Haruki Murakami –> That was… different? I am super captivated though, this is something very weird but a great read! I did not even know what it was about but how the storylines are SLOWLY revealing connections is brilliant!

Eric / Terry Pratchett –> Eh. Not my favourite! I thought it was too fragmented and not as funny as we’re used to. Also, no really interesting characters apart from Rincewind & Luggage who are not shining in this one.

The Golden Compass / Philip Pullman –> I dnf this 12 or more years ago but was thinking about giving it another chance. I enjoyed reading it, it had lots of nice fantastic elements and secrets. I adore the daemons and bears!

The Darling Buds of May / H.E. Bates –> A Christmas present that I enjoyed much more than I thought!

What I’m reading now:

Wrath of Empire / Brian McClellan –> 402/639. HOOKED! Once I was ready for big books again, I basically jumped on it. And now I can’t stop.

Leviathan Wakes. The Expanse 1 / James S.A. Corey –> 27%. WOAH! I am so surprised that I am absolutely loving it! I read a sample just because I’ve seen someone on reddit mention that this is the best series they’ve read recently. And I remembered that a lot of bloggers I follow loved it. I did not expect to fall in love with it so quickly. I am devouring the book, it’s such a pageturner! Please tell me whether the sequels are as good as well?

I’m jumping from one book to the other cause they are both bloody amazing!

January is always such a good time for reading!

I am looking forward to get my hands on those this month:

I wanted to read ‘The Kingdom of Copper’ by S.A. Chakraborty as well, but I’ve read a review that mentions exactly what I was fearing would happen. So I will probably stay away and am happy that I found out BEFORE I actually bought the book πŸ˜€

On another note… Yesterday was ‘Wrestle Kingdom’ and guess who’s champ now?

tanahashi

Yup, good old Tanahashi!

I have to say though, I wanted Kenny Omega to keep the title.. He did this cool hype video before the match! Check it out if you’re a fan of ‘Undertale’ πŸ˜€

I wasn’t too happy with the event. Mainly because my favourite wrestler apparently got a concussion in the opening match & had to be carried out on a stretcher 😦 That kinda bummed me out for the whole event. Especially since we didn’t really know whether he was really hurt or whether it was a ‘work’ and planned until the end. Match was brutal though, he needs to slow it down.

Like, don’t get kicked and punched in the head from behind so often.

Also, don’t set yourself on fire..

Don’t take a burning hammer 😦

Sorry for the gif flood! I promise, it won’t happen again πŸ™‚

Have a lovely 2019, everyone!

    1. I think you will never be safe, sorry! I have an absolutely fabulous picture lined up! … I AM a bit obsessed with Minoru Suzuki at the moment though so maybe I will exchange Tanahashi with him. Definitely less hair.

I just finished ‘Wrath’ yesterday, it was excellent again, even though it had a slow start. Review is coming at the weekend πŸ™‚

      1. Awesome! (about Wrath, NOT hairyhashi). I just can’t wait for the trilogy to wrap up so I can add it to my tbr.

I will refrain from any more comments about hairy, oiled up wrestling guys…

      2. I feel like I am in an anime and Hairyhashi is being introduced as my Nemesis.

I guess that means only one thing. I’ll have to put him up for Election as World Book Czar and let nature take its course. πŸ˜‰

    1. Hi πŸ™‚
Das war auch mein erster Murakami, also wuerd ich sagen – go for it!

  2. Congrats on a good reading month πŸ™‚ Sounds brilliant.
I also like the sound of ‘breaking’ up the work routine a bit… Doing something handsy (like picking berries) is so therapeutic and so… how to say it, it just makes you feel good yourself, that type of work πŸ™‚ I really need to put my foot down at work myself and start saying NO and think about me a bit more… I’ve been run ragged for the past 3 years and I really don’t enjoy much of anything anymore…

Anyway, happy reading and I shall keep my eye out on what your thoughts are on The Wolf in the Whale πŸ™‚

  3. Lol I’d never have known of Tanahashi, and his hair, if not for your blog.
I also DNF’d the Golden Compass years ago. Hoping to read it this year… well, I have to since I listed it as a book I must read this year.

  4. Hahaha, I am SO glad I could share the glorious Tanahashi with all of you πŸ˜€
I won’t write full posts on wrestling anymore, but I WILL sneak some things in here and there lol

I hope you like it more the second time as well !
