December Post #3

Hello! It’s time for my weekly update^^

First of all – the house is ours. Now the only question is whether we move our settlement date forward or keep it as it is. We have to wait until the start of the new year to decide it, but it’s not a big deal. I am just happy that we finally have it!

I’m getting a bit ahead of myself and look at animals we can adopt. I fell in love with silkie chickens, look at them! So fluffy! I’d like to get a whole bunch of chickens, but every one is going to be a different breed so I have lots of wonderfully coloured eggs every morning ❀ Can’t wait to adopt! Probably after next winter.. If I can wait that long πŸ˜€

I finished reading Eric by Terry Pratchett last week. Did NOT remember it being this short. I enjoyed it, but it seemed a bit too fragmented. Not my favourite Discworld novel despite Rincewind and the Luggage. I am already eyeing off the next one in the series, Moving Pictures. It will probably be my next purchase. I don’t remember it very much either, so it’s almost like reading it for the first time.

Now I’m in the middle of The Golden Compass by Philip Pullman. It’s my second try after not finishing it about 10-12 years ago. I enjoy it much more now and am sure that I will finish it. I absolutely adore the setting and the daemons, as well as the secret of the Alethiometer and the ‘Dust’. I DID watch the movie but hardly remember anything, really. I have a picture of Eva Green flying through the air and Daniel Craig in the snow in my head but that’s it. So it is like experiencing the story for the first time.

I’m not really feeling a connection with Lyra yet though. She’s a bit too emotionless for me. I’d imagine some of her reactions, especially to the revelation about her parents, to be stronger. It doesn’t seem to have an impact on her at all. I still like that she’s so brave & determined and I hope she will be more interesting further on.

They are just starting their journey to the North and I am very excited! I’d also love to read more about Pantalaimon and Daemons in general. There’s some interesting tidbits, but I suppose we will be told more later on.

I am also very much looking forward to the BBC series. Cast looks cool, apart from James McAvoy. Please convince me otherwise, but I don’t think he’ll fit. I was wrong before though, so maybe that’s the case here again.

Yesterday we say the Trailer for True Detective Season 3 for the first time. After the disappointing second season it looks like this will be more similar to the awesomeness that is season 1. Looks VERY promising! We are looking forward to it!

I will not make my aim of reading 40 books this year. I was well on track for the first half of 2018 but lost it after that. I am still happy with most of the books I read this year. I discovered some real gems and new authors. And my TBR is still very low. I like it!

Posts on my highlights, what I am looking forward to in 2019, what I plan to read this season etc will come online soon πŸ™‚

Have a lovely Christmas!

  1. Congrats on the house!

I seem to remember that Eric was a bit underwhelming. I do know that Moving Pictures was one of my least favorite Discworld books.

I’m guessing Santa Tanahashi shaved his chest and glued all that extra hair on to his head. Or his chin, hahaa!

For 2019, do you think you’ll aim for 40 again or will you lower that number since the new house and everything?

    1. I happen to know that Tana does have hair extensions.. so who knows where it comes from 😜

I am not sure yet – I have a couple more days to think about the number.. I will work less days over autumn and winter, but of course there’s more to do on the property.. it might even out. Right now I’d say I keep it at 40 ✌🏻

  2. Congrats! Konfetti! Party!
    I’m happy for you!

Golden Compass – I’m a little bit jealous of you because you’ve get to read the story for the first time. πŸ˜‰

  3. I’m at Amazing Maurice… in my re-read, and I find most books to be even better than what I remembered. In general, while Death remains my favourite character, I definitely like the Watch books the most. Will choose top three after I’m done with all of them πŸ™‚

Great news about the house πŸ™‚

Keep us posted about the True Detective, after season two I’m reluctant to start the third one…
