July 2018

Another month is over and it was one of the best this year. I was working a lot, but not as much as last month and I mostly picked cool books to read.

Here is what I read:

Empire Ascendant / Kameron Hurley –> finished. Review. Weird & confusing, but still intriguing and now I want to know how it all ends. Looking forward to the last part!

The Last Sun / K. D. Edwards –> finished. Review. This was lots of fun and definitely one of the best books this year. Glad I picked it up. I will continue this series for sure!

The Poppy War / R. F. Kuang –> Still no review. It was such an intense & extreme book. I loved the first part to bits and thought it was going to be a new all-time favourite. But the last part was… a lot. And dark. VERY dark. And too detailed. Not bad, really and definitely not boing. But it was a lot to take in. I have mixed feelings. But this book stays with you. I am glad I read it.

The Plastic Magician / Charlie N. Holmberg –> Review. It was okay, but nothing more.

Sheepfarmer’s Daughter / Elizabeth Moon –> DNF. Review. Zezee and I were disappointed and bored by this.

The Outsider / Stephen King –> 101/475. Oh gosh, this is good! I had trouble getting in, because it jumps around in time but now I got used to it and they mostly stay in the present time now. I don’t read crime/thrillers too often and am intrigued. Of course it helps, that it’s King and his characters are all interesting! I am prepared for a weird ending though πŸ˜‰

Spinning Silver / Naomi Novik –> 34/474. (Woah, almost the same number of pages as the King!). So far it’s beautiful!

Dragonflight / Anne McCaffrey –> 50%. Zezee and I picked this one after our Sheepfarmer disaster πŸ˜‰ Our process of choosing went like that:

Deezee: It has dragons

Zezee: Deal

I’m halfway through and I like it. Even though the style of writing is sometimes a bit difficult at least for me as a non-native speaker. McCaffrey seems to use a lot of ‘big’ words haha. It’s quite old though and you notice. But I love the dragons and their relationship with the riders and the world.

Looking back at my last post – I read 3 of the 4 books I planned to. It worked well, so I am going to pick 4 more books for this month:

Wrath of Empire was already on my list for last month. It’s the only book I didn’t get to. Veins of Gold has only been released last month and even though I wasn’t super happy with the last book by the author, I enjoyed all of her other books. This one sounds really good as well! My Pratchett ReRead will continue with Guards!Guards! and I need another short dragon book, so Searching for Dragons is perfect.

Apart from reading, I was watching SO MUCH wrestling. Not every night.. but almost! Damn, NJPW for being so freaking awesome!! I will feel lost for sure when the tournament is over in a week..

To end this, here’s 2 wrestling pics without context, enjoy!

  1. On an aesthetic side of things, your links don’t stand out super well from your regular text. You might want to choose another color OR underline them or something like that.
I don’t know if browsers make a difference or not, but I am using Chrome.

I hope you get to searching for Dragons, as I’d like to read what you think of it πŸ˜€
