While most of the world is getting ready for Summertime, I am freezing here in Melbourne. If anyone tells you, that it’s always nice & warm in Australia, they are A LIAR! Melbourne is the worst in winter. We had -1 degrees in the morning the other day and right now it’s rainy & stormy.
Anyways.. I like to do TBR lists. Whether I stick to them is another thing π Here is my list of books I’d like to read this winter.
Wrath of Empire / Brian McClellan
No surprise here. I’m loving those books! I don’t remember the last time I read a series all in one go. But I am reading everything by McClellan at the moment and hope I don’t find myself in a slump again once I’m done!
The Poppy War / R. F. Kuang
The hype is real. Almost everyone seems to love it and I want to see if it’s really that great.
Oathbringer / Brandon Sanderson
This is not the year of big books. I can’t get myself to pick it up. Because it’s so heavy! I am lazy & weak. Should have gotten it as a kindle version, but I have all the books on my shelf, so I needed to get this one as well. Maybe I need to talk Mr. DZ into reading it out to me!
Spinning Silver / Naomi Novik
Just a month away! I will probably look out for the hardcover version, because I love the cover and would love it on my bookshelf.
The Plastic Magician / Charlie N. Holmberg
I need to catch up! I used to be very up to date with Holmberg novels, but she’s doing a Sanderson an publishing so many books π I will make sure to read this soon, because….
Veins of Gold / Charlie N. Holmberg
…..there’s another one! And it’s coming next month! I don’t even know what it’s about, but I WILL read it!
Guards! Guards! / Terry Pratchett (ReRead)
My Discworld ReRead will continue!
A Cavern of Black Ice / J. V. Jones (ReRead)
I have the feeling this book turns up in all of my TBR lists π It fits best into winter though and I am always picking it up here and there. Maybe I finally finish it!
The Sheepfarmer’s Daughter / Elizabeth Moon
Elizabeth Moon is one of the ‘big’ Fantasy authors I haven’t tried yet and it’s about time! Maybe this will be a Read Along π
The Outsider / Stephen King
The newest King sounds amazing and the reviews so far are very positive. I’ve even read that it has a good ending!! Might pick it up as soon as I see it.
I’ll be on the lookout to see what you think of The Poppy War.
I take it then that the Paper Magician books are pretty good. Would you recommend them? The covers make me curious about them.
Yes!! Let’s read the Elizabeth Moon book! π Did you see my email?

I LOVE how Sanderson is reshaping the Fantasy genre. From pace to stories to size, the man is just outgunning everybody!

Yes! You are right, he is a true pioneer!
Let’s see what he comes up with next. Maybe a REAL brick with words on it. Wouldn’t that be nice.

That’s what I’m worried about, that the hype of The Poppy War will end up turning people off. At the same time, I’m happy it’s getting more attention, because I genuinely loved it. Crossing my fingers it’ll work for you! I’m also excited to read Spinning Silver!

Yeah, that’s always the danger with books that are that popular π But I have the feeling I’ll like it. And I try to not have such high expectations haha

I just bought The Poppy War because of the hype. Very curious but also not ready for all the triggers at the end haha. Maybe in the Fall I’ll give it a chance.
I read Spinning Silver and liked it, but not as much as Uprooted. π

I’m also looking forward to Spinning Silver, I loved Uprooted! The Deed of Paksenarrion is pretty awesome. It’s definitely an epic fantasy tale. My husband is currently reading Wrath of Empire, he really loves that series. I’m trying to convince him to write a guest post for my blog about it, LOL! Oh man, so much of this list is awesome. I also love Brandon Sanderson, and I’ve been meaning to read the Paper Magician series and Poppy War! Looks like we have similar tastes in books!

Thanks! Oh, I am almost done with ‘Sins of Empire’ and will probably jump straight into ‘Wrath’, it’s just so damn good!
Sounds good what you say about Elizabeth Moon π Can’t wait to see for myself!

I have to say, those covers do all say “winter book” to me. I hope you enjoy reading them, or at least the ones that stay on your TBR!
