Anomander Rake / The Malazan Book of the Fallen by Steven Erikson

This book has so many great names, but Anomander/Anomandaris is my favourite. I could do without the ‘Rake’, but hey! Can’t have everything!

Arwen / The Lord of the Rings by JRR Tolkien

My favourite name from ‘The Lord of the Rings’. I need to call one of my animals in the future Arwen. Arwen the Alpaca? No?

Alanna / The Song of the Lioness by Tamora Pierce

I like it simple as well. Alanna is a super pretty name. It works for kids nowadays as well!

Margana Le Fey/ Morgaine

..Or any other version of the name. Love it!

Lisbeth Salander / The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson

I think it’s a badass name! I am a fan of Scandinavian names in general though, so there’s no surprise.

Chade Fallstar / Farseer Trilogy and others by Robin Hobb

I am a big fan of Hobb’s names in general – she’s come up with lots more cool ones (Thymara, Althea Vestrit, Nighteyes, Tintaglia, Vivacia, Paragon…) And also..

Amber / Liveship Traders by Robin Hobb

I LOVE that freaking name, I am sure one of my pets in the future will get it.

Kaladin Stormblessed / Stormlight Archive by Brandon Sanderson

EPIC name. And my favourite character anyways. The ‘Stormblessed’ makes it though – without it, it would be nice, but not by far as cool!

Al’Lan Mandragoran / Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan

That and Perrin Aybara are my favourite names from the series. It just rolls nicely^^ And Lan was my favourite character in it as well.

Melisandre / A Song of Ice and Fire by GRRM

There’s also a couple of names I like from the series, like Rhaegar Targaryen, Arya, Sansa or Sandor Clegane… But Melisandre is the most beautiful name of all!

  1. Great names! I know a couple who named their daughter Alanna, but I keep forgetting to ask them if it was because of the books or something else. I also think Arwen the Alpaca would be amazing. You could also have Llegoas the Llama or Pippin the Pony.
