Top Ten Tuesday: Books & Samples I got recently

by That Artsy Reader Girl

I am doing another topic today. This is a book haul TTT plus samples. I normally don’t do posts about new books I purchased, because there are not that many. But I thought I just show you the latest books I bought & the samples I plan to read. Just for a change – enjoy!

Books I bought

Wintersong / S. Jae-Jones

This is based on ‘Labyrinth’, so naturally I couldn’t resist! I am a bit cautious though and won’t have my hopes up too much. That movie is perfection and no new version could ever live up to it. I hope I can still enjoy it though.

The Mad Lancers. A Powder Mage Novella / Brian McClellan

It was cheap, so I got it. Missing my Mad Lancers!

I will only read it, after I’m done with the Powder Mage Trilogy though.

Samples I am going to read

Rosemary and Rue. An October Daye Novel / Seanan McGuire

I am listening to ‘Every Heart a Doorway’ right now and think I want to try more by the author. This sounds like a cool series so I give it a crack.

Tempest and Slaughter / Tamora Pierce

A new Tamora Pierce series? And a prequel? Yes, I gotta try! Pretty sure I will like it though πŸ™‚

The Fifth Season / N.K. Jemisin

fifth season

I already liked other books by the author, but this series is getting really positive reviews. I hope it’s for me as well!

Graceling / Kristin Cashore

I have to admit, I don’t really know what it’s about – I just kinda stumbled over it. And samples are for free anyways πŸ˜€ I see how I go with it.

God Stalk. God Stalker Chronicles 1 / P.C. Hodgell

I found it on a list of lesser known Fantasy books that are worth checking out. This sounded the most interesting to me:

Jame is a Kencyrath, the chosen people of the Three-Faced God, who fight the demonic being called Perimal Darkling. At the same time, she fights an internal battle for their honor because 3,000 years ago the leader of the Kencyrath betrayed his people to the Darkness for his own immortality.

She also must find her ten-year older brother Tori and return to him the sword and the ring of their father. If that is not enough she has to stand before the rathorns, wear the cloak of living snakes, kill one god, and resurrect another. All in a day’s work for Jame.

Sheepfarmer’s Daughter. The Deed of Paksenarrion 1 / Elizabeth Moon

I feel like reading some older Fantasy books from the 70s, 80s and early 90s, as I have mostly been reading new publications or books that are no older than 10 years lately. There’s so much good stuff out there though and so many overlooked Fantasy novels.

  1. Oooh, Wintersong sounds interesting. I’ll have to look at that one.

I hope you enjoy Rosemary & Rue! I have read the first three books in that series, and really enjoyed them. (Books 4 & 5 are on my TBR shelf at home, but I haven’t gotten to them yet.)
