The Liebster Award

I got tagged by Mr. and Mrs. NW from Navigating Worlds πŸ™‚ Thank you very much for the tag and those really interesting & fun questions!

You need a team of 3 people to help you overthrow an emperor. Which fictional characters would you recruit and why?

Can I exchange my 3 fictional characters for one Brock Lesnar? No? Ok….

Well, I go old-school and pick a mage, a fighter and a random dude. I want Kaladin Stormblessed as my fighter and he comes together with Sil, so that’s a nice bonus. I also want Quick Ben (The Malazan Book of the Fallen) on my team, because he’s super clever and way more powerful than he lets on and I am sure the emperor will underestimate him.

I also want to pick Simon Mooncalf from Tad Williams’ ‘Dragonbone Chair’. It will be a pain to have him with us, but easier in the end, when we can send him at the bad guys first & sacrifice him.

What is the most surprising twist you have come across in a novel?

I don’t want to spoil anything, but lots of things from A Song of Ice & Fire, obviously. Like that Ned or that Joffrey scene. Also, lots of scenes in Jennifer Fallon’s Tide Lord Quartet are great twists and I could not see them coming. The end of the Mistborn Trilogy is worth mentioning as well.

You are hunting for a house to buy with your family. The only places available are Northern Westeros (north of the wall), Mordor, and Arrakis. At which location will you purchase a home?

What if I throw myself off a cliff immediately and don’t have to choose? πŸ˜€

You make me choose between 1) freezing/getting eaten/turned into a White Walker or starving 2) burn to death/getting eaten/starving and 3) starving/dying of thirst/getting eaten by a sandworm/drown in freaking sand.

Yeah, I go to Mordor and pretend to be an Orc soldier until Frodo destroys the ring. Then I get rid of Arwen and become the Queen of Gondor. Sounds about right!

If you had to attend a fictional school of magic, which one would you select?

Hogwarts is probably the most popular answer and I’d love to go there. But sorry, I’d love to attend Unseen University even more!

You are the likable, but slightly useless, best friend to the main character. What one skill keeps you out of trouble?

Being incredibly lucky, kinda like a female Rincewind. I am also very fast and can speak a couple of different languages.

If you had to read every single book by one author, which author would you pick?

Terry Pratchett – this will keep me occupied for a while! Also, I read almost all books by my other favourite authors, like Robin Hobb, Brandon Sanderson or Jennifer Fallon.

Which is the best country in the world?

STRAYA of course, mate πŸ™‚

You are on an epic quest to save the world. You can take either a phoenix, a dragon, or an old bearded man. Which do you choose?

I take the old bearded man! It’s written in the rules of Fantasy writing, that you CANNOT go on a quest WITHOUT the bearded dude.

…Nah, of course I pick the Dragon.

Wine or beer?

That is hard! I only drink dark beers and I only like white wines. As a German, I am not allowed to choose anything other than beer though. It’s in our country rules.

You have struck it lucky and book blogging is your full-time pursuit but you need a co-author for your blog. Who do you choose and why?

I choose Bookstooge. Because he’s funny, he blogs a lot and his taste in books is similar to mine. We also think very much alike in some ways and I think if we’d co-blog, we’d break the internet.. somehow. πŸ˜€

      1. That would be cool to do. I have only been to the ones in Wellington. Weta workshop is pretty fun to look around.

My mum ran into Elijah Wood on the street one day when LOTR was filming and went up to him and said β€œoh, you’re that guy from that movie”. The poor guy had to introduce himself. So embarrassing.

  1. Oh my! Jennifer Fallon! – when i first read her Second Son Trilogy I was in love with her writing. I was completely enthralled by it and have since forgotten to read anything else by her. I’m definitely going to make amends this year.

And hell yeah I’d choose Mordor – take me to Middle Earth any day! πŸ˜€

  2. I love your replies! Though I wouldn’t pick a place to buy a home, either. My family and I would travel Middle Earth like the rangers did, and wait until there was a house available somewhere other than Mordor.

  3. Oh gosh yes with Ned! And basically all the twists there were shocking! I’d never come across anything like that in fantasy till I read that. hahahaha oh my goodness those are awful options for finding a horse (I have to say your plan is solid, plus what kind of horse could you get north of the wall anyway?) Oh man the Unseen University would be amazing!!! hahahaha love your “female Rincewind” answer lol!! Good choice with Pratchett! hahahah yeah of course- it has to be the dragon! hahaha I think you and Bookstooge would definitely break the internet πŸ˜‰
