Review: Saga, Vol 2 by Brian K. Vaughan and Fiona Staples

Thanks to her star-crossed parents Marko and Alana, newborn baby Hazel has already saga 2survived lethal assassins, rampaging armies, and alien monstrosities, but in the cold vastness of outer space, the little girl encounters something truly frightening: her grandparents!

Some Spoilers, so be careful.

You can officially call me a fangirl now, I loved the second volume just as much as the first!

It’s more funny, but also much more emotional than the first and tells a compelling story again. We are getting introduced to Marko’s parents, which leads to conflicts with Alana! While Marko and his mum go on a little excursion, Alana stays on the ship with Marko’s dad and they both get to know each other. I loved how it doesn’t take more than a couple of pages to make me invested in their relationship and to show them change and develop!

We are also introduced to Gwendolyn, who has been mentioned before as Marko’s ex-fiance.

Although she is also after Marko, she doesn’t seem to me like an all-bad person. I am interested in her real motives. So far, I think she is a good addition to the cast.

She even teams up with my favourite character from volume 1, The Will. And they add a little kid with special magical abilities to their team, hooray!

One scene almost broke my heart this time, NOOOOOOOO!

Lying Cat and The Will are still the best and I am happy they get featured so often! The story could definitely live up to the hype of the first and gives more depths to the characters. It’s still bright, violent, sexy and bizarre, but also sad! AND look at those cute cuties!

5/5 Stars!

I ordered volume 3 & 4 over bookdepository and hope they arrive soon.

  1. It is a great comic, probably the best by this already accomplished author. I liked Y: The Last Man as well, but not its final parts.
Personally I love omnibus editions, beautiful hardcovers, but I’ll have to wait a long time to see it all published in this form…

    1. Oh gosh, you’d look amazing as Gwen!! If you ever go to a dress-up party, keep it in mind hahaha

If I was really talented and into it, I’d try that spider lady^^ Forgot the name. I wonder whether someone already attempted it, I gotta google 😀
