1. What is your pets name?
2. What kind of pet is it and what breed?
Same as her brother Randy, she is a lop-eared rabbit.
We say ‘she’, but actually ‘she’ is an under-developed male. We got her as a girl but the vet found out that she’s actually a boy 😀 He almost didn’t see it though! Poor Floppy! We keep referring to him as ‘her’ though.
Floppy has a virus called ‘E-Conniculi’, which is under control now, but left her with a permanent head tilt. She got used to it now and lives the life of a normal rabbit. Almost. She can’t jump on the couch anymore, but she can run and do little jumps. Sometimes she still falls over & rolls, but she is able to get up on her feet on her own.
One vet wanted to put her down! He didn’t know what she had and gave her all kinds of medicine, that didn’t help.. We changed vets and then she almost died from a penicillin shot and had to be resuscitated. The new vet is so much better though, as they are specialized in rabbits and can finally treat her right.
Floppy will feature in a book on the virus – they asked to take a picture when her head was almost upside down.
Here is a short video on how Floppy moves around now. It was during the time she was losing her fur, that’s why she looks like a plucked chicken 😀
3. How long have you had your pet friend?
3 years and 4 months.
4. How did you get your pet?
Local pet store, together with Randy
5. How old is your pet?
About 3 1/2 years.
6. What are some quirky things about your pets personality?
Floppy is a strange rabbit. Even before her virus outbreak, which happened in May 2016, she was very curious and friendly. When Randy heard a loud noise, he thumped and hid somewhere. Floppy stood up and hopped towards it to see what was going on!
She liked to jump on me and sit on my belly.
She is not as clean as Randy and loves eating! During the first month of her sickness, she lost a lot of weight but now she gained it all again and is heavier than Randy.
Floppy developed a weird foot fetish! Whenever she sees feet she has to come and sniff. And when someone walks past her, they have to be careful to not step on her, cause she will run up and try to sniff feet! Ugh.
She also loves to really stretch out (and sometimes look like a slob 😀 )
And of course she shares her brother’s love for cardboard boxes!
7. What does your relationship with your pet mean to you?
Just like with all of my pets, they are members of the family and precious to us!
8. What are some of your favorite past times with your pet?
Giving neck scratches, she loves them since her head is tilted. She even asks for more and pushes against my hand when I stop!
9. What are nicknames that you call your pet?
Flops, Floppo or Tilty 😀
