Top Ten Tuesday: Books on My Summer TBR

hosted by The Broke and the Bookish

I am so excited for my list this summer! This is what I plan to read:

Words of Radiance. Stormlight Archive 2 / Brandon Sanderson

ReRead. I am already in the middle of my Way of Kings-ReRead and still love it so much! My favourite parts are definitely Kaladin’s chapters, but I even like to read about Shallan. She only got a bit annoying in this second book. I wonder whether I still feel the same about her. Dalinar’s is probably my second favourite perspective! And I will keep a very close look on all the interlude chapters as well as what Wit is up to πŸ˜‰

Oathbringer. Stormlight Archive 3 / Brandon Sanderson

Hype Hype, I can’t wait! The book is sitting on my shelf already! Slightly annoying, that the colour is more grey than white this time and it doesn’t fit with my other versions. Who did this?! But anyways, that won’t make me less excited to read it! I will not read any ‘Oathbringer’ reviews until I have finished it. I don’t know anything about it yet. Not even who the focus is on this time. I heard it was supposed to be Szeth or Eshonai or Dalinar. Probably Dalinar, with that name.. But I want to stay ignorant until I pick it up πŸ˜‰

The Crimson Campaign. Powder Mage Trilogy 2 / Brian McClellan

I am so excited for this as well! Priority Read after my ‘Summer of Sanderson’

The Autumn Republic. Powder Mage Trilogy 3 / Brian McClellan

Let’s do them both together, so I can start with the new trilogy soon as well. I might also read all the short stories I don’t know yet. Yes, this is how much I LOVE this series.

Empire in Black and Gold. Shadows of the Apt 1 / Adrian Tchaikowsky

The next long series I want to jump in. I decided I like the writing enough to commit to it. The characters in the sample I read were all interesting and it looks to be really epic, so bring it! Also, Bookstooge said it wasn’t as philosophical and rambling as the Malazan books, so that’s the best argument for it πŸ˜€

The Forgotten Beasts of Eld / Patricia A. McKillip

That’s a short read I can squeeze in and I already read a couple of pages. It’s great, I love the animals! And the main character is really arrogant & ignorant, I am excited to read about her becoming a decent person (hopefully).

Weird Sisters / Terry Pratchett

ReRead. Excited to read this again, as it was always one of my favourite Discworld novels! Go witches, go!

A Darker Shade of Magic / V. E. Schwab

This is going to be a buddy read with my friends Christian, Ina and Anncatrin from Germany! Can’t wait! And also, if anyone wants to read it with us, you are very welcome to join! I will do another separate post in a couple of weeks. We plan to start in January.

Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince / Joanne K. Rowling

ReRead. Almost done here. I don’t remember book 6 & 7 very much because I only read them both once.

Dragonflight. Dragonriders of Pern / Anne McCaffrey

Ina just mentioned it in one of her posts and I feel it’s a crime I haven’t tried those books out yet. How can I call myself DRAGONS & Zombies if I have never read a series about a planet full of dragons?! Let’s start this!

  1. I can’t possibly find the time for a re-read of the Stormlight books. But I’m thinking about trying to read the Mistborn books (for the first time) before I read Oathbringer.

I am in the same boat as you with Pern. For shame on both of us!

  2. I need to read more Pratchett! The problem is, I keep forgetting which ones I’ve read, and accidentally re-reading them! (I guess I need to go to our bookshelves with Goodreads in hand so I know… but Mr. Wyrm has all of the Pratchett books, I think, so I have no excuses.)

I hope you enjoy Pern! I love that series, though some books more than others. The original trilogy is great, though, so you’re starting in a good place.

    1. Hahaha, nothing wrong with rereading the Discworld books πŸ˜€

Good to hear you enjoyed Pern! I don’t really know how many books there are in total, but if I like this first book or trilogy, I check them out as well πŸ™‚

      1. I’d prefer to reread the Discworld books on purpose, though, and not when I think I’m reading a new one. πŸ˜‰

There are a lot of Pern books. I’d suggest you stick with the ones by just Anne McCaffrey at first, though. Her son helped write some of the later ones (both as a co-writer, and a solo author) and I didn’t like the few of those that I read nearly as much.

  3. Ha. I’m in the middle of Midnight Tides by Erikson and I’m about ready to kill myself, metaphorically speaking, not literally. Shadows of the Apt can be grim, but it is never hopelessly depressing and soul destroying pointlessness.
