My October

And another month is over way too quickly! Is it really almost Christmas? Workers were already setting up a giant Christmas tree in the Shopping Centre I work at last Sunday! That was still October! The crazy shopping rush will start soon… In hospitality, I don’t like Christmas time, people are especially stressed out & rude and they shouldn’t be! Don’t make it all about the presents… Enjoy the Christmas atmosphere instead!

But let’s not talk too much about Christmas yet, it was only just Halloween! I’m not celebrating, but I tried to make some nice Halloween themed pics of my books and rabbits…

Randy is a good boy! Floppy didn’t want any of it.. She only likes my books when I am just reading them. Then she tries to eat them.

What I read last month:

Beyond Redemption by Michael R. Fletcher –> finished! Weird book. Lots of violence, bad language, gore, disgusting scenes. But I was still intrigued. I will continue and see how the second part keeps up. Expecting lots of funny German names again!

Stranger of Tempest by Tom Lloyd –> finished! Here is my review. Was good but could have been better. Still convinced me to read the second part.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix by Joanne K Rowling –> finished! I loved it so much! The only parts I was bored were Hagrid’s story and the Grawp episode. I just don’t care. Also, Harry is a wanker and Dumbledore as well. A bit. Book 6 will probably have to wait until next year.

Swan Song by Robert McCammon –> 24%. It’s picking up, the characters are on the move. I haven’t hated a character as much as I hate Roland Croninger right now, what a piece of sh*t! He was annoying from the start but after I read what he did to those hamsters in school?! Nope, I just want him to die a very, very horrible death!! All my sympathy goes to Josh at the moment, he’s one of those gentle giant characters I can’t help but love! Also, Sister is impressing me with how naturally she took leadership of her group!

Desperation by Stephen King –> 102/706. A weird, creepy cop who randomly abducts people and imprisons them in an equally creepy town called ‘Desperation’. I wouldn’t even drive past it with such a name haha πŸ˜€ I am still trying to figure out who the main characters are going to be. Half of them King kills off just after introducing them!

Black Sun Rising by C. S. Friedman –> 151/586 –> Really cool so far, it’s a nice mix of Fantasy & Science Fiction. I like the magic of this world, worked through natural elements called ‘fae’ and the characters are quite interesting as well. There’s a lot going on and there’s even a dark & scary forest that’s alive and abducts pretty women,..(Heeey, Uprooted!!)

Rogues by GRRM and Gardner Dozois –> 234/909 –> I make my way through this very slowly.. So far I only liked half of the stories. I might just be quicker to dnf from now on, if a short story doesn’t convince me.

What I want to read this month

.. and apart from that, I will be happy to finish everything I started – no further plans.

What I am watching

We gave up on The Deuce after 4 episodes. The story was just going nowhere, nothing exciting kept happening.. We keep recording the episodes for now, in case we change our minds, but that won’t happen, most likely.

We also haven’t started The Walking Dead yet, although the episodes are recorded. We just can’t bring ourselves to watch it, as the last couple of seasons were so boring. We might record half of it before we start. Maybe it’s going to be awesome and if not, we can just skip the episodes that focus on one single boring character.

We ARE watching The Shannara Chronicles though, and I LOVE IT! The music is beautiful, the setting definitely is and it’s light & easy Fantasy entertainment. Also, Manu Bennett. Even Mr. DZ likes it but it may have something to do with all the girl on girl action happening.

South Park Season 21 is funny so far as well! My favourite episode has been the ‘Holiday Special’, but the latest ‘Sons a witches’ was pretty cool as well. I am definitely enjoying this season!

  1. The Walking Dead seasons one and two were so great and I expected great things of season three but it bored me in places, (Andrea and the Governor’s romance, Rick’s madness) I hated the deaths when they move into the prison and I had lost interest by the end so I haven’t watched beyond season three yet. I guess I will eventually…

  2. Cute bun!

I haven’t started The Shannara Chronicles yet, and we’re behind on South Park. We’ve been watching Halloween-themed-but-not-too-scary movies and season 2 of Stranger Things (which I love). Have you read the Shannara books? I’d be curious to see how the TV series compares.

    1. I’ve never read them and don’t plan to. I didn’t even want to watch it but we had nothing else to do and thought why not give it a try. Was a good decision πŸ™‚

I still haven’t finished the first season of ‘Stranger Things’ πŸ˜€ I think I have 2 episodes left.. So Season 2 was just as good?

      1. I read the books when I was younger, back when there was only the original trilogy and the heritage series (Scions, Druid, Elf Queen, & Talismans) was being released. I enjoyed them at the time, but I’ve tried to go back and re-read them since and couldn’t get into them.

I’ve been enjoying it so far! We’re about 5 episodes in, so I don’t know if I’ll continue to like it as much, but up to this point it is very much a continuation of Season 1.

  3. I’ve started watching the second season of The Shannara Chronicles and though it’s not as deep as other creations in the genre, it’s indeed light and entertaining – and much more palatable, from my point of view, than the written works it’s drawn from. And I agree on the musical score: more often than not I go to TuneFind to discover what a particular song is πŸ™‚

  4. I used to watch The Shannara Chronicles but then lost interest when it seemed that there would be a love triangle in the first or second season. Can’t remember which.
I was excited that the guy who plays Christos in Spartacus (loved that show) was in it.
