Thanks to Bookstooge and The Orangutan Librarian for making me aware of this tag! Looks like fun and I haven’t done one in a while.
Find a book on your shelves or e-reader with a blue cover. What made you want to pick up this book?
Blue-ish. That’s as close as it gets. I got really into Stephen King a couple of years ago and am on a mission to read all of his books. I don’t read them in any particular order – I just pick up what sounds most interesting to me and what I feel like at the moment. I wanted something short and creepy. And that was definitely the right choice, it freaked me out!
Think of a book you didn’t expect to enjoy, but did. Why did you read it in the first place?
Probably the most recent one. I thought it was just another YA book with whiny or overly perfect protagonists and a love triangle. It was much more enjoyable though and I even liked most of the characters. Doesn’t belong to my favourites and I have since decided to not continue with this series but it was still a good book.
I picked it up because of tons of positive reviews.
Stand in front of your bookshelf with your eyes closed and pick up a book at random. How did you discover this book?
I can’t do that, I have expensive tea cups on my book shelf and lots of precious stuff that I don’t want to knock down. I picked a random number and counted.. And because it was so much fun I did it on my Kindle as well, so here are 2 books:
I watched an anime based on the story of ‘Little Women’ first and fell in love with it. Since then I read the novel and enjoyed it as well. I will pick it up again eventually. The second one I picked because I read one trilogy by the author that I liked previously (Black Magician) and this sounded cool. I finished it but didn’t enjoy it very much.
Pick a book that someone personally recommended to you. What did you think of it?
A friend of mine whose taste in books is very similar to mine kept telling me to start it. I already read the Liveship Trader trilogy by then. So glad I listened to her!
Pick a book that you discovered through YouTube / book blogs. Did it live up to the hype?
Yes, it definitely did!!
Find a book on your shelves or e-reader with a one-word title. What drew you to this book?
Because I like this so much, I will pick 2 again, one from my shelf and one from my Kindle.
Both of those were great! I picked the Sanderson because during that time I was catching up on everything he wrote. I read it on a holiday to Bali. Uprooted just sounded so good and magical and I always wanted to try something by Novik.
What book did you discover through a film / TV adaptation?
I watched an anime of this one first when I was a kid before I ever picked up the book. Love both!
Think of your all-time favourite book/s. When did you read these and why did you pick them up in the first place?
This is hard, because I have a couple of favourite books or series. So this is only one of them^^ I read the first book in the ‘A Song of Ice and Fire’ series, as a German translation, in 2004 I think. I got it for Christmas and read the next volumes (that were published then) straight after. Re-read a couple of times.
These type of posts are fun to read. So are you the kind of GRRM fan that still has hope of the books being finished or have you turned to the tv show because you’ve realized he has betrayed you and never actually plans on finishing it? 😀

I am one of the optimistic ones 😀 I still believe that the book series will come to a conclusion one day.
I also watch the series but see it as a different work of art. I am a bit sad that the big things are revealed already now, but the show is still very different to the book series in many ways and I just hope there are some more surprises waiting when the next book is published.

It’s that bad, is it? 😦 (Keep that evil reality away from me! 😀 )

I don’t know. I’ve avoided GoT and have actively stayed away since it became evident that GRRM was flipping the finger to his fans by not finishing the series. To me, there is a social contract between author and fan. You write, we read, you complete. GRRM is actively breaking that contract, so I’m not beginning it…

Fair enough I suppose.
I am not too upset though. I’d like to have the next book.. But if he wrote himself into a corner or for some reason lost the plot.. that’s just bad luck. I don’t know whether it’s all going so slow because he’s lazy and lost interest.. or is having trouble finishing the whole thing because of lack of ideas.. (although I kinda doubt that..)
Well, we don’t know what’s going on behind the scenes, but I totally get why people don’t want to commit to a series that might never be concluded.

I’ve never read the Enchanted Forest Chronicles although several people have told m they’re pretty good. And Assassin’s Apprentice- I enjoyed that series.

The way you felt when you picked up The Demon King is how I feel every time I consider purchasing or reading a YA novel. I’m so tired of love triangles and most other YA tropes.

I am lucky because mostly I am not even tempted to buy YA. It’s not what I am looking for. And if there’s an interesting sounding one I do the love triangle test and see if it’s safe haha

Oh, ich habe gerade die deutsche Übersetzung von “Thiefs Magic” angefangen, es gefiel mir auf den ersten Seiten recht gut. Na, mal schauen, ob es so bleibt. *bibber*

I loved Uprooted so much. I’m surprised I never picked anything up by this author. I really want to read more from her. Have you had a chance to read anything else? I have A Little Princess on my shelf because of the movie which I loved so much as a kid, but I haven’t actually read the novel. Not sure I ever will. Enjoyed all your answers!

I read the first Temeraire book which was really good! I love that her main character there is an adorable dragon. And although it’s the start of a series it has an ending of its own.
I haven’t continued yet because I heard the later books are not as good.. haven’t made up my mind yet

Very good to know! I will look that one up.

ooh glad you did this tag 🙂 And Demon King is really good- I personally think the series does get better. Also I picked up Thief’s Magic for the same reason and I agree, very disappointing.

You have lots of fun and enchanting reads going on here!
Likewise, I tend to buy books if I noticed that there’s a hype circulating about them – I like to be part of the popular bookish discussions so reading popular new releases such as When Dimple Met Rishi and The Hate U Give has become a total must for me.
A Little Princess has been under my radar for quite sometime, I’ll definitely have to add it to my endless TBR soon!
I look forward to reading more from you in the future – Happy Reading 😀

Hi! And thanks for your comment 🙂
Normally I am the other way round.. if a book is super hyped I get suspicious haha. I will still check if its something for me but often overhyped books end up disappointing me. So I have to be sure if it’s really something for me or if I just condider it because its popular.
