Top Ten Tuesday: Favourite Bookish Animals and Dragons

.. because Dragons are Dragons, they need to be mentioned separately!

hosted by The Broke and the Bookish

Nighteyes / Several books by Robin Hobb –> My precious! Nighteyes is a wolf and Fitz’s companion. He is always loyal & protective and very brave. He is much more than a wolf and probably the animal character I could connect with most.

Greebo / Discworld novels by Terry Pratchett –> Nanny Ogg’s massive tomcat. For her he’s just a little kitty, but for everyone else, he’s terror on four legs! Greebo once chased a bear up a tree. He is somewhat magical as well šŸ™‚ Just a very small minor character, but I LOVE him and wish he would have got his own book.

Temeraire / Temeraire by Naomi Novik –> You can only love Temeraire! One of my favourite dragons, he is intelligent, curious, fair and friendly. Such a perfect creature! He loves to read books as well ā¤

temeraire Daniel Govar
by Daniel Govar

Bent & Roach / The Malazan Book of the Fallen by Steven Erikson –> One is a big wickan cattle dog, the other a small lapdog. They turned up first in ‘Deadhouse Gates’, where they somehow survived the massacre that was the ‘Chain of Dogs’. They play a bigger part from there and I believe they were with us until the end.

Ghost / A Song of Ice and Fire by George R. R. Martin –> Always my favourite direwolf in the books ā¤ I do like Drogon, Viserion and Rhaegal as well and of course the other wolves. But Ghost is special!

Tintaglia / Several books by Robin Hobb –> The fucking QUEEN of dragons. So arrogant and into herself, like a real Dragon Queen should act! Humans are just a nuisance and very irritating to her, but never a threat. And they have to serve! Robin Hobb’s Dragons behave mostly like sassy cats šŸ˜€ I also do love the other dragons she created, like Icefyre, the big motherfucker or little Heeby, who is so cute and adorable and resilient!

Mister / Dresden Files by Jim Butcher –> Just Harry Dresden’s fat cat, who is not really that important for the action. But he’s there and he’s awesome. And I would pick up the series again if he’d play a bigger role in some of the later books! I am only at book 5 or 6.

Mogget / Sabriel by Garth Nix –> I hardly remember any of the action, but I liked Sabriel’s companion, the talking cat Mogget. he was cute and funny.

Oy / The Dark Tower by Stephen King –> Oy is a billy-bumbler, which I always imagined, looked like this here: oy

He is part of the Ka-Tet and can talk alittle. He’s very good friends with Jake and I wanna cuddle him.

Falkor or Fuchur / The Neverending Story by Michael Ende –> My very first favourite dragon ā¤ And favourite character from the book & movie. Let’s not mention Artax or I have to cry again :((

  1. Oh my gosh Falkor?? Get. out. All I remember now is them flying through the air and wasn’t Bastian yelling??

I remember Tintaglia too. and Nighteyes (yes!). And a certain direwolf…

  2. I always adored Mister in the Harry Dresden books. And six years ago when we adopted this grey tabby Maine Coon, I immediately started calling him Mister even though I hadn’t read one of the books in years. It just fit.

Here is my Top Ten Tuesday. Thank you!

  3. Such great picks! I’m also very fond of Nighteyes. šŸ™‚ there’s another one I’d add to Dresden that you haven’t gotten to yet, but I would also add the young Gargoyle from the Rachel Morgan series. That counts, right? He’s furry… kind of. šŸ™‚
