Top Ten Tuesday: (Post-)Apocalyptic Books on my Wishlist

hosted by The Broke and the Bookish

I showed you enough Fantasy books already, so here are some books dealing with the Apocalypse. And maybe Zombies.

The Reapers are the Angels / Alden Bell –> Zombie Apocalypse, I already read a sample and liked the style of writing. It’s told from the perspective of a young girl.

Day by Day Armageddon / J.L. Bourne –> Zombie apocalypse, written in journal form. I’ll see if I like it that way.

The Last Girl. Dominion Trilogy 1 / Joe Hart –> Set in a world in which almost no baby girls are born anymore. Interesting set up.

Patient Zero / Jonathan Maberry –> Badass detective hunts down mean terrorists who want to create Zombies. I’ve seen a lot by this author and will give him a try.

The Mountain and the City / Brian Martinez –> A virus killed almost all of humanity, no Zombies. Not sure what it’s about but the reviews are good and people compare it to ‘Swan Song’. I check it out.

The End is Nigh / Hugh Howey & Jamie Ford –> a short story collection that is the start of a trilogy. This one deals with stories just before the apocalypse.

The Living Dead / John Joseph Adams –> also a short story collection. I already read the ‘Wastelands’-collection by the same publisher and liked it. I hope this one will be just as good.

State of Panic. Camp Zero 1 / Jack Hunt –> Survival story. This time no Zombies. ‘A nation in darkness. A community in danger. Everyone in a state of panic.

After a U.S anti-missile system in Europe malfunctions and fires upon Germany, a deadly retaliation follows in the United States with a series of coordinated attacks. Millions are killed, the electrical grid is obliterated, and the country falls into darkness. As remaining survivors are thrust into a state of panic, officers from a wilderness correctional camp in Idaho and a group of troubled youth must fight to stay alive while trying to save family and community.’

Hell on Earth. Life of the Dead 1 / Tony Urban –> A farmer & a group of misfits fight Zombies. I doubt it is like ‘The Stand & The Walking Dead’ but it sounds like fun and is short. I’ll give it a try.

    1. I like it when people play with the concept of Zombies & make it something different. Then I am always intrigued. I mean I like my plain old mindless Brain-Eaters, but after a while it gets stale and I need something else

  1. Ooh, I love post-apocalyptic stories. I’m surprised that I haven’t read any of these yet. State of Panic sounds particularly good.

And I feel the same way about zombies, Nathan. Hopefully authors will continue to find new things to do with that genre.

Here is my Top Ten Tuesday!

  2. I enjoyed Day by Day Armageddon and I’m not usually a fan of the diary format. Hell on Earth was a recent addition to my tbr and I really like the sound of that one. I’ve got so many great apocalypse books I need to get reading!

    1. I had a look into ‘Hell on Earth’ yesterday and it starts pretty cool. Lots of Zombie action immediately haha. I am only having a sample right now but am almost convinced to get the whole book.
