I decided to show you the newest additions to my wishlist, once a week, because there are always interesting books I come across 🙂
The world of Myrial is racing toward apocalypse. For aeons, its mysterious Curtain Walls have functioned to separate realm from realm, and race from race, so that each cordoned area remains a sanctuary for its species. But now the miraculous walls that have provided order for so long are disintegrating with disastrous results.
Mingling climates are causing unrelenting rains or deadly droughts, while warlike races are preying mercilessly on the helpless and meek. And the carnage will only grow worse unless a seasoned woman-warrior, a brazen firedrake, and a venerable Dragon with amazing telepathic powers–all trusted members of the Shadowleague–succeed where everyone else has failed. For they must first locate the heart of Myrial, where the secret for undoing this disaster resides. In order to reach their goal, however, they must overcome treachery, intrigue, and evil–and a mysterious figure from the past whose actions threaten to tear the Shadowleague apart.
I was writing a post on Furey’s Artefacts of Power the other day and came across this trilogy of hers. I remember that I considered reading it years ago but then threw it off my wishlist. I like the sound of it though and there’s definitely dragons in it!
Over a millennium ago, Erna, a seismically active yet beautiful world was settled by colonists from far-distant Earth. But the seemingly habitable planet was fraught with perils no one could have foretold. The colonists found themselves caught in a desperate battle for survival against the fae, a terrifying natural force with the power to prey upon the human mind itself, drawing forth a person’s worst nightmare images or most treasured dreams and indiscriminately giving them life.
Twelve centuries after fate first stranded the colonists on Erna, mankind has achieved an uneasy stalemate, and human sorcerers manipulate the fae for their own profit, little realizing that demonic forces which feed upon such efforts are rapidly gaining in strength.
Now, as the hordes of the dark fae multiply, four people—Priest, Adept, Apprentice, and Sorcerer—are about to be drawn inexorably together for a mission which will force them to confront an evil beyond their imagining, in a conflict which will put not only their own lives but the very fate of humankind in jeopardy.
Another trilogy from the 90’s. I feel like journey/quest Fantasy at the moment and this is exactly what I want to read. Love the old-school cover, maybe I can find it somewhere.
Love this small list! It’s alwaysgreat to hear about some throwback books! Are you currently reading any old school novels?

I am reading a book that was published in the late 90s, yes 🙂
I have been overlooking ‘older’ books a little, which is a shame!

The Heart of Myral looks fun, and I’ve never read any Friedman.

Me neither! Although I have had a look at some of the author’s work. It all sounds very interesting 🙂

Omg that first one has a DRAGON ON THE COVER. I’m interested immediately by that alone.😂

Hahaha, right?! 😀 They know how to get us readers interested. Just put a dragon on the cover, people will buy 😉

I like the premise for Black Sun Rising: it starts as SF and morphs into FY, probably combining the two in interesting ways. And I’ve always wanted to read Friedman… Thanks for sharing 🙂

Thanks 🙂
That was exactly why I put it on my list 🙂
The author wrote another series, ‘Magister Trilogy’, which is more regular Fantasy I think but sounds interesting as well.

😍😍😍 omg I LOVED Heart of Myrial. It’s one of my favs!! I’m not sure how recommendable it is, as I read it 10+ years ago, but I totally devoured it!

It’s an obscure one for sure! One that I was pushing on customers until it went out of print for my bookstore. I thrilled you’re considering it! 🙂
