My Year 2016

2016 wasn’t a very bookish year for me. I only finished 27 books in total and unfortunately only a few of them really blew me away. Lots of them were good, but not awesome and a couple annoyed me so much, I didn’t even finish them.

Genres I read

  • Fantasy: 17
  • Contemporary: 3
  • SciFi: 1
  • Dystopian: 3
  • Horror: 1
  • Biography: 1
  • Thriller: 1

Like every year, most of them were Fantasy novels. But I looked into some other genres as well.

Favourite Read 2016: The Bands of Mourning by Brandon Sanderson. The series continues to impress. I especially like the way the characters develop and the witty dialogue. Can’t wait for the last part!

Least Favourite Read 2016: A book I didn’t even finish. Nevernight by Jay Kristoff. Not worth my time. Here’s my post about it

Biggest Surprise 2016: Smiler’s Fair by Rebecca Levene. An absolute no name. At least for me. Picked it up because I liked the cover and the blurb. It blew me away and I finished the second part of it soon after. Great High Fantasy!

Most read authors 2016: Tamora Pierce (4), Stephen King, Brandon Sanderson, Rebecca Levene (all 2)

Most WTF did I just read moment:

Her gaze zeroed in on his groin and her heart rate quadrupled. “Umm. Wow. Did it grow? Because it looks bigger.”

“Kissin’ your red-hot love flower made this stem grow big and hard just for you, baby doll.”

From Cowgirl up and ride by Lorelai James. I should have expected it. And I did. Kind of. I wanted Smut, but what I got was way too ridiculous and made me laugh or cringe more often than not.

I wanted to finish the year with zero books TBR, but didn’t manage it because I wasn’t reading at all over Christmas. I didn’t reach my goal of 30 books this year either. I am still happy as I have only 1 book TBR and a bunch of new ones I will get immediately when the new year starts 😀 As a present for myself 😉

Also, next year brings a new Sanderson, a new Hobb and a new Fallon. And hopefully a few more books I have been waiting for.

  1. I definitely expanded the genres I read this year even though fantasy is still my go-to. And I didn’t read a ton of books either. Good for me but not compared to some other bloggers lol. And 2017 may be the year I try Sanderson. 🙂
