Top Ten Tuesday: New-To-Me Authors I Read For The First Time In 2016

toptentuesday2

hosted by The Broke and the Bookish

Lois McMaster Bujold –> I read 2 of her books from 2 different series. It was alright, but nor exactly what I was looking for. It’s supposed to be romantic Fantasy, but in both books I didn’t like the romances and couldn’t take the male protagonists seriously. I won’t read more of her books.

Arnaldur Indridason –> I read part 1 of the Reykjavik Murder Mysteries and liked it. Will continue this series.

D.J. Molles –> Good old Zombie survival story. I might not continue with this series but will probably check out other books by the author. The story was a little too short and I wouldn’t have minded a bit more character development and depth.

Cinda Williams Chima –> Read part 1 of the Seven Realms series. Better than expected but at the moment I don’t feel like reading on. There are other things I want to get to first. I liked the author’s style of writing though and that might not have been the last of her books I read.

Rebecca Levene –> Yes, yes! Surprise of the year. In a positive way. I read 2 of her books and loved them to bits. Will have to wait until next year for the third part of her Hollow Gods series.

Lorelai James –> Nope. Never again. Too cringey and infuriating. I wrote some things about it here.

Larry Niven –> I enjoyed Lucifer’s Hammer and now Ringworld is on my radar.

Jay Kristoff –> Didn’t like Nevernight and didn’t finish. Only got to page 40 or something. Those footnotes were killing me.

Frank Herbert –> I finally started reading Dune! So far, so good. I only read 3% but am curious. Hopefully I can finish it this year.

  1. Oh I LOVED the Seven Realms books!! Although seriously don’t try Flamecaster.😂 It kind of destroyed the original series which was very sad. And aww, sadness you didn’t like Nevernight! I thought the footnotes were hilarious but from what I’ve heard I’m the minority and most people got so annoyed at them haha.

    1. Uh oh, noted! I will be very careful around ‘Flamecaster’ 😀
I read some reviews about Nevernight and it’s either people hating on it (like me 😀 ) or people absolutely loving it. Can’t make everyone happy 😀

  2. I haven’t read Bujold but I think I have a couple of her books waiting – what a shame you didn’t like them – I’m still curious although when I’ll find time to pick them up is anyone’s guess.
Nevernight I really enjoyed but only because I pressed past the annoying footnotes – they did become a lot more easy to read. Just the start was immersed in them and they were so awkward to read on e-book!
I would like to check out Rebecca Levene.

  3. I haven’t read Larry Niven but I have to admit Ringworld has always kinda intrigued me. I liked Illuminae but I don’t think Kristoff’s solo books would be for me. The Reykjavik books sound good to me.
