Just like last year, I will join the ‘reading-weekends’ leading up to Christmas! I am not sure, if I will be able to read a lot on both days, as I will be working every Sunday and sometimes on Saturday as well. But today I am free. Kind of. We are painting the house at the moment. My Boyfriend is doing most of it, but I am helping as well. Or trying to 😀 I did my part in the morning already and will probably jump in again later.
So today, I already read 10% of Lucifer’s Hammer by Larry Niven and am now up to 80%. My small challenge for today will be to finish that book. It’s really good at the moment. There’s so much going on, so much tension, different fractions, so many possibilities of betrayal and backstabbing.. The main group, with most of the main characters who survived the fall of the ‘Hammer’, are in a little valley up in the mountains, trying to prepare for winter. They are still in danger, but organized and are getting stuff done. Now there’s another group, consisting of army men, cannibals and religious nutcases, that’s pretty close to them. They are not that organized and want what they have. I can see the final showdown coming.
There’s one thing though I am super annoyed of.. There’s this annoying chick, called Maureen, who’s the senator’s daughter. The senator is the leader of the main group, working hard to keep everything together. And she is just a whiny little bitch who complains about being useless, but doesn’t actually try to help at all! The only thing she does is sleeping around and turning hard working guys against each other. For some reason half of them seem to be in love with her. I can’t see why. It was fine at the start, but on the last pages, her love life becomes more important and I don’t want to read about it. And her in general. Give her to the cannibals, she’s ruining the story! I even like the Mail Man more now and I hated him at the start. At least he’s helping out. He killed a bear and is still running messages & deliveries!
I read 5% more of Lucifer’s Hammer. It’s aaaalll going down now. The different groups are preparing for war and a few of the good guys are on a side-mission to save a power plant nearby. I still like it. And I still hate Maureen. Now she feels like she’s been the victim all along… While it’s her who’s jumping from man to man. Just shut up, Maureen. Do something useful.
I had a Matcha Green Tea Muffin for lunch today. Didn’t taste much like matcha, but was still pretty yummy 🙂 I love and hate Christmas Season! So much lovely food. I will definitely go to the gym more often 😀
Maybe I will start baking next week. I miss German Christmas cookies!
Update #2: Sunday
I finished Lucifer’s Hammer on my way to work this morning. Very happy with it, it was definitely worth reading and I even liked the ending. It was very interesting to read about the decisions the members of the community had to make and how they thought they should live from now on. I definitely want to read books similar to this. But maybe some more Zombies first. I could do with Zombies right now. But no new books until I have finished everything from my TBR 🙂
I started Calamity, the last part of Brandon Sanderson’s Reckoners Trilogy, as it’s only a short book and I would like to finish it this month. I better get back to it now 🙂
