End of the Year-Challenge: Update #2

My Challenge

This week hasn’t been as good as the last, unfortunately. I didn’t even finish a book. Almost, but that doesn’t count.

So not much is changed…

TBR: 3

  • Calamity by Brandon Sanderson
  • The Bazaar of Broken Dreams by Stephen King
  • Dune by Frank Herbert

Started: 5

  • City of Mirrors by Justin Cronin 229/598
  • Nevernight by Jay Kristoff 39/427
  • The Hunter’s Kind by Rebecca Levene 363/468
  • Rogues by GRRM & Gardner Dozois 163/909
  • Lucifer’s Hammer by Larry Niven 57%

I picked up 3 different books this week. Only 100 more pages to read in The Hunter’s Kind, which is at that point just as good as Smiler’s Fair. I am still impressed! I managed to read 2 more short stories from my anthology, Rogues, and didn’t like them as much as the first 2. The last one was a Hap & Leonard Adventure by Joe R. Lansdale and although I enjoyed the style of writing, I didn’t connect with the characters. That’s always the problem when you read a short story based on books you don’t know. Anyways, I will continue with this one. I also decided to not give up on Lucifer’s Hammer and read a total of 2%! Getting more into it again though, as the perspective changed and we are now with a group of survivors high up in the mountains. They just decided to not let any refugees into their community as food is scarce and they can’t share. Harsh. But you gotta look out for yourself…

  1. Oh i love the Steelheart trilogy! Although I thought Calamity was the weakest of the lot unfortunately. But still. SO EPIC. WHICH IS FUN IRONY CONSIDERING IT’S ABOUT EPICS.πŸ˜‚ Ahem. Good luck with all these ones you’re reading! That’s a lot to balance at once. You’re a very talented multitasker. πŸ˜‰

Thanks for stopping by @ Paper Fury!

    1. Hahaha, thank you! Normally I can’t stand reading more than 2 books at the same time. And even then, I feel weird. I prefer to stick with just one and give it all of my attention xD But I probably have End of the Year-Motivation (that’s a word!) and want to finish them all quickly so I can buy a ton of new books next year.

I am not a HUGE fan of the Reckoners. I can’t stand most of the characters. But the whole Epic system and the world in general are so interesting & exciting! Sanderson better has some big revelations coming or I won’t like Calamity πŸ˜‰

  2. Ooh Rogues? I wanted to read that when it came out but I never got to it. In fact there were several anthologies that Martin edited that I never got to- I think Dangerous Women was another.

I didn’t read much in the last week either.
