It’s back-to-school freebie week, so here’s something school-related, I give you some of he books I would have loved to read at school and would read with my class if I was a teacher.
The Handmaid’s Tale / Margaret Atwood –> I actually read it at school and enjoyed it.
Short Stories and Poems / Edgar Allan Poe –> Sorry Shakespeare, but I think Poe is a much better choice. His poems are beautiful and meaningful and his short stories are fun to analyze.
A Little Princess / Frances Hodgson Burnett –> it’s short, beautiful and teaches a lot
Ender’s Game / Orson Scott Card –> to introduce the kids to SciFi
American Gods / Neil Gaiman –> should be on every teacher’s shelf everywhere 🙂 Deals with multiculturalism, the struggle that comes with it and is written beautifully
The Hunger Games / Suzanne Collins –> why not. Kids would love it and dystopian tales are popular in school
A Discworld novel / Terry Pratchett –> Funny and criticizes society. Good for education 😉
Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone / Joanne K Rowlings –> Why not read one of the most popular books ever. So much to discuss. Is Harry a good example of a hero? Lots of characterization.. I would have loved to spend time with this at school.
To Kill a Mockingbird / Harper Lee –> There has to be a Classic 🙂
I really wish Harry Potter and Hunger Games existed when I was in school. WAY more interesting than The Scarlet Letter and Some Kind of Wonderful. Great list!

I love Edgar Allan Poe. I don’t think I ever studied him in school, what a shame! Yes, To Kill a Mockingbird is just a must. I’d love to see the reaction to a Neil Gaiman novel. Great list!

Great topic. 😀 I love that you have Terry Pratchett on this. And I really need to get to American Gods at some point, especially with the tv show that is coming.
